Modular data center for research

A modular and resilient data center designed to grow over the time

For a leading national public research institute, the data center represents an essential element in ensuring continuity of scientific activities and data reliability.

The project was created from the need to develop a medium-sized data center, designed to evolve in phases and support constantly changing IT loads.

A service interruption would have had a direct impact on research activities. For this reason, the infrastructure had to be resilient and designed to grow over time, while maintaining high standards of security and accessibility.

Starting needs

The institute needed to develop a data center capable of supporting medium-to-high IT loads, with a modular structure designed to be implemented in phases. The first phase included the installation of ten racks, integrating both air and liquid cooling technologies.

As a public entity, the project had to meet stringent requirements in terms of certification, security, and accessibility, while at the same time ensuring the highest level of operational continuity.

The DataDom solution

The solution was a prefabricated data center delivered as a kit and installed within a parking area identified as the infrastructure site. A solution that optimized space and construction time while maintaining high performance standards.

Although it is a medium-sized data center, the infrastructure maintains the same ANSI/TIA Rating 4 resilience level typical of higher-tier facilities. The structure is REI 120 fire-resistant and compliant with regulations for accessibility for people with disabilities.

An infrastructure ready to grow with research

This project demonstrates how a prefabricated data center can effectively meet the needs of public research: high-level certifications, resilience, modularity, and the integration of advanced technologies.
