Data security at the core of the food supply chain

Certified prefabricated data center for traceability

A well-known cured meat producer in Lombardy, focused on the quality and safety of its products, found itself facing the growing need to ensure full traceability of raw materials a fundamental requirement for operating in the market and complying with industry regulations.

To address this need, the company chose to rely on the DataDom solution by installing a DataDom One: a modern, reliable, and scalable data center, custom-designed to meet its operational requirements.
Thanks to this solution, the cured meat producer was able to modernize its IT infrastructure, improving data control, operational continuity, and the security of business-critical information.

A service interruption or data loss would have meant only one thing: the inability to place the product on the market.
The data center therefore had to become a strategic, reliable, and certified asset, while remaining compact and perfectly integrated into the production environment

Starting needs

The client required a solution capable of ensuring full operational continuity for a critical service, complete regulatory compliance related to food traceability, and the highest level of resilience, even within a limited space.
In addition to these needs, there was the requirement for an accessible infrastructure, with adequate spaces and pathways for operators with disabilities, as well as effective physical protection against fire and weather conditions.

The DataDom solution

The solution was a fully custom prefabricated data center, designed starting from the available space and the client’s actual operational needs.
Although it is a small-scale data center, the infrastructure was designed according to ANSI/TIA standards, achieving a Level 4 resilience rating—the highest level of reliability предусмотрed by the standard.
Dual power supply and redundant systems ensure operational continuity and safety even in the presence of critical issues, delivering a design quality consistent with higher-tier infrastructures.

The infrastructure was conceived as a single, coherent system in which every element contributes to operational continuity and data security.
The data center is based on a certified prefabricated structure (shelter), resistant to fire and weather conditions, equipped with an access ramp for people with disabilities, non-slip surfaces, and adequate space to ensure safe movement, including for wheelchair users.

Inside, the racks sized according to the client’s actual operational needs—are supported by a redundant electrical architecture that includes UPS systems, a generator set, a distribution board, and PDUs, ensuring power continuity even in the event of critical issues.
Infrastructure protection is completed by a fire detection and automatic extinguishing system, as well as an access control system designed to safeguard the physical security of data and restrict entry to authorized personnel only.

An infrastructure ready to grow with research

This project demonstrates that size does not define the criticality of a data center. Even a compact infrastructure can represent the core of a production process and require the highest level of protection and resilience.

DataDom has transformed a regulatory requirement into a solid, certified infrastructure, ready to support the business over time.
